LSD
LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide) is one of the more popular drugs that made its mark in the 60’s and 70’s and are a powerful hallucinogenic. LSD is created from lysergic acid and is a very powerful hallucinogenic that when abused can be very dangerous to the body and the mind of the abuser.
LSD, often called “acid,” can be taken orally in various ingest-able forms and thankfully has reduced in strength over the years. The LSD in circulation now is significantly weaker than the samples circulating in the 60’s and 70’s, which has led to a higher rate of addiction.
Health Hazards
The effects of LSD are unique for each user and often unpredictable. Depending on the amount of LSD taken, the abuser can expect swings in personality and mood as well as hallucinogenic distortions of time and place. An LSD “trip” as is the commonly known slang for a LSD users experience and “bad trips” can cause terrifying “flashbacks”. Due to the hallucinogenic nature of the drug, users have had accidents and deaths just from misinterpreting their surroundings.
“Bad trips” and “flashbacks” are only a few of the dangers of repeated LSD use as users may develop psychoses, such as depression or schizophrenia. Often times LSD users voluntarily stop using the drug as the drug doesn’t have any inherent addictive qualities like cocaine, meth, alcohol, heroin, or nicotine, but like all compounds, a tolerance builds up in the body and leads an increase in dosage and usage to maintain the high and can be thought of as a form of addiction.
Treatment
Due to the long lasting effects on the brain and mental facilities, a carefully calculated treatment plan needs to be created, much like those implemented at Archstone Recovery. At Archstone Recovery we follow the 12 step plan to create a comprehensive treatment plan to work with the patients. Many patients are coming from emotional counseling sessions or difficult Interventions, so at Archstone Recovery, we do our best to make the admission process as painless as possible.
