Inhalants

Inhalants

Inhalants are chemical vapors that are inhaled to create psychoactive effects and other mind altering effects on the brain. The danger of inhalant addiction is that many of the abused products are commonly available in stores or found in many homes. Inhalants can be created by mixing common household items as well, so it is a very difficult addiction to control. Products such as spray paints, cleaning products and glues are abused to create the desired high. There are many different types of Inhalants, Solvents, Gases and Nitrites.

Health Hazards
The effect of Inhalants are short term, similar to taking an anesthetic, and need repeated doses to maintain the effect. Extended this effect for several hours requires multiple doses of inhalants that cause irreparable harm to the brain and body of the user. The more concentrated the solution, the more of a danger it is to the users body and can potentially lead to heart failure or death. Suffocation is also a major risk from inhalants as the inhaled product replaces the oxygen in the lungs. Longtime abusers of inhalants also deal with damage to their brain, liver and kidneys.

At Archstone Recovery Center, we know that many patients are coming from intensive counseling sessions or difficult interventions, so we do our best to make the transition as smooth as possible.
